My Journey

The eldest of three girls born and raised in Africa, I never had the courage nor sense to appreciate the  world about me. Constant dreams and self imposed challenges convinced me I was not an artistic personality.

Enter awareness in the form of a camera I gifted my husband.

A heavy white Pentax K-x entry level DSLR with a kit lens set.

I do not believe a camera has ever worked as hard as that one did. It was used to video seemingly endless footage of BMX riders  in training as well as take stills of the same riders in mid air as they trialed and perfected manoeuvres which professed to increase speed upon landing.

A collection of some of the photographs may be found on the following page as I felt it was pertinent to include not just the good photos but the not so great and even a few of the ones that really should have been deleted.

'Penny' recorded many wonderful memories and remains my favourite camera.

2023 and it was time to welcome a new camera to the mix.

A Sony a6400 found it's way into my hands.

I believe this was the true turning point on my photographic and personal journeys. I signed up for a local photography course and earned my Uleo certificate. A door had been unlocked! A light switched on!  A desire to share the world as I see it was born!

Why should I believe myself to be a follower only when I could be the one followed instead?

'The road most travelled' is possibly the best description that comes to mind when I am asked to recount my photography journey. It was never an easy road as I was and still catch myself being my biggest 'jump up'.

FYI Jumpup is Aussie slang for a road, path or track ascending or descending a hill or range.

A moment in Ceduna

If I could show off just one photo that sums up my journey so far, it would be the one of my disabled son in his wheelchair against a sunset in Ceduna, Australia.

It encompasses one of my reasons.

The next big adventure for Aussie🇦🇺Shutterbug is being associated with macro photography primarily.

It's an entirely different world through a lens and I intend having fun capturing unique images and sharing them here.

My passion for Australia, especially the farming and Outback communities and the challenges faced by those with dependent family members captures and inspires me.
